WHO declare China malaria free.
Malaria is a mosquito borne life threatening infections disease caused by parasites that is transmitted to people through the bites of infected female Anopheles mosquitos. It is preventable and curable.
SYMPTOMS OF MALARIA
The person will suffer from -
- fever
- dry cough
- headache
- nausea.
Malaria is mostly seen in the tropical and sub- tropical region ( not much present in the temperate region) because malaria is found in the region with excessive temperature, high rainfall & relative humidity.
DATA RELATED TO MALARIA
- According to World Malaria Report 2020, more than 4 lakh people lost their lives ( majority of cases was reported from Africa, while India & South-east Asia recorded significant drop.
- Cases in India dropped from 20 million to 6 million.
- WHO put China under the 'Malaria Free' status, such accomplishment is achieved by countries like Australia, Singapore, Brunei.
CHINA'S SUCCESS STORY
To become malaria free China adopted 1-3-7 strategy. This strategy has three principles.
- REPORTING: The minute a particular person has all the symptoms he immediately needs to go see a doctor and the doctor will check whether or not this person has malaria. If the case is confirmed the doctor will immediately report it to the agencies within a day.
- INVESTIGATION: Its the job of the agency to investigate in the matter of three days about whether the person got infected because of the local conditions or international reasons.
- RESPONSE: After gathering all the information, if it is found that it is because of local reasons necessary preventive measures will be taken in the locality from further affecting other people in the area in the next seven days.
Meanwhile China also provided timely medicines and made its citizens constantly aware from time to time. Time identification of breeding grounds and treating them with insecticides. In 1980s China came up with 'Insecticides Nets' for treating the same.
It made sure to utilize global funds to AIDS, Tuberculosis& Malaria, established several laboratories & research organizations.
India can also take up similar approach to strengthen its own fight against malaria.
